Five advantages of GRP water tanks

Five advantages of GRP water tanks

Here at Precolor, we have been serving the water industry for over 40 years, offering a variety of industrial water storage tanks for industrial purposes.

One of the types of tank that we offer our customers are GRP water tanks. GRP stands for glass-reinforced plastic, combining durable plastic with glass fibres. This gives GRP tanks the combined qualities of steel and plastic, making them able to provide excellent protection and storage for cold water supplies.

There are several advantages to investing in a GRP tank, whether you’re a local council, an engineer or an architect. Here are just a few of the reasons why a GRP tank may be best for you:

Durable

The GRP tanks that we offer are square or rectangular in shape and are notably shipped and delivered in one piece, rather than in components that are welded together. This makes them highly durable with no weaker parts such as seals or joins. As they are also UV protected, GRP tanks can also be placed indoors or outdoors without fear of them being damaged by long-term sun exposure.

Pre-insulated

GRP water tanks are pre-insulated using CFC-free polyurethane foam. This protects their contents from extreme temperatures, reducing excessive fluctuations in temperature that increase the risk of bacteria growing in the tank. This means that you can be sure that your water supply will stay useable, no matter the weather.

Different shapes and colours

GRP tanks can be manufactured in a range of special sizes and shapes, including irregular shapes such as L shapes or in a tapered shape. GRP tanks are available in our standard grey colour or to a specific RAL colour, with popular options including British racing green and blue. Whatever your requirements or specifications, there will most likely be the right GRP tank for you.

Modifiable

However, if you really need an individualised tank, the variability of GRP tanks is not limited to pre-set shapes. Standard cut-outs to accommodate connections and fittings on your GRP tank are provided on all special and standard GRP tanks, and tanks can easily be cut and drilled with ordinary plumbers’ tools.

GRP tanks can also be modified to carry a range of cold water systems and particular materials: for example, standard specialist GRP tanks can be manufactured to store a wide range of chemicals.

Accessories available

If you’re particularly concerned about protecting your tank from weather, accidental damage or vandalism, GRP tank housings and covers are available. With these specifically designed enclosures, you can be confident that your tank will remain secure.
